The CASI Community Grants program is focused on education, social services and issues involving women and children with an emphasis on underrepresented populations.
For Texas’ Metro Relief, Inc., taking on homelessness means bringing the work to where the people are.
The group’s mobile outreach organization sets out to provide resources and assistance direct to where they are, while also addressing long-term solutions and aiming to end the root cause of homelessness entirely.
Since 2013, Metro Relief has served more than 100,000 meals while assisting nearly 2,000 people in transitioning to no longer living on the streets. In 2024, the group provided 601 vital documents and housed 162 formerly homeless people.
The group credits its connection-building in making the difference, creating trust for when members of the homeless population are ready to make the change. CASI Community Grants funding supports the operation’s mobile mission, providing food, hygiene kits, clothing and support every Friday and Saturday, while also allowing case managers to visit existing clients and providing transportation and assistance in connecting with social services.
